Maybe you've already purchased wedding rings that are designed to your exact taste, but one of you has the wrong ring size? Or maybe your weight has adjusted and the ring is starting to fall off your finger? Whatever the reason, you may have a few questions when it comes to resizing your ring.

How long does it take to change a ring size?

The process of resizing your wedding ring can be completed in just a few hours, but it can also take several weeks. It all depends on the metal of your wedding ring, the design of the ring, and the jeweler you choose. And while it is difficult to predict exactly how long your ring resizing process might take, there are a few practical tips and guidelines that can help you better estimate the likely duration of the process.

Factors to consider

One of the most important factors in determining how long it will take to resize your ring is the service provider you choose to use. If you go to a local jeweler, you will be able to resize your wedding ring much faster, but if you choose a large jewelry chain, you may have to wait a little longer.

The main reason why this might happen is obvious - a local jeweler can resize your wedding ring on the spot, whereas in the case of a large chain jewelry store, you will have to wait longer, as the ring will be sent to the jeweler's workshop and it may take a week or more before your ring is finally resized and you can pick up your ring.

Meanwhile, if the work is not complicated and the jeweler is not busy at that time, a local jeweler can immediately change the ring size in his workshop, taking no more than an hour. However, the jeweler's workload may be higher, so in such cases the work may take up to 1-3 days. On the other hand, some local jewelers may give you a one-week deadline for insurance purposes, but often you can pick up the adjusted ring the same or the next day.

However, don't forget to consider whether your wedding ring is still under warranty. If you resize your ring at another jeweler, the warranty that was granted and is still valid may be voided. Therefore, if your ring is still under warranty, you should resize it at the same place where you purchased it.

Other factors that can determine how long it takes to resize a ring include the complexity of the ring itself and the size of the ring you need. For example, you should be aware that wedding rings made of titanium or tungsten cannot be resized because these metals are too hard. Also, don’t forget about some other wedding rings, such as those made of rose gold. The latter can often be more difficult to resize because rose gold is a relatively soft non-ferrous metal and can crack more easily.

If we were talking about wedding rings that are made of gold, silver or platinum, their size can be adjusted much easier. However, it all depends on the specific design of the ring. For example, if the ring is encrusted with diamonds that are arranged around the entire ring, the ring size cannot be changed. Thus, the ease and time of changing the ring size depends very directly on its specific model. If you want to adjust the size of your wedding ring, it is worth first consulting with your chosen jeweler and finding out exactly how long this whole process can take.
