When your hand is adorned with a mesmerizing engagement ring of impressive beauty, you will feel like you are in heaven, but at the same time you will start to worry about how you should properly care for it and protect it from damage. Therefore, in order to have more answers than questions, and engagement rings are properly maintained, we also provide some practical advice.
First, take care of engagement ring insurance
Very often, we think about the possibility of insuring an item that is dear to us too late. Therefore, to prevent this from happening to you, when you purchase an engagement ring, take care of its insurance - especially if the gemstone inlaid in the engagement ring is very expensive. This way, you will feel much calmer and avoid major financial losses if the engagement ring is significantly damaged or even lost. However, this certainly does not mean that after insuring the engagement ring, you will no longer be able to pay much attention to its care.
Features of removing an engagement ring
While your engagement ring is brand new, you'll want to protect it at every turn. Of course, taking proper care of your engagement ring is a good thing, but overdoing it can sometimes lead to losing it. That's why it's important to be aware of when you should actually take it off and when you shouldn't.
So, resist the temptation to take off your engagement ring when you wash your hands. In such cases, if you take off your ring and place it on the edge of the sink or another nearby surface, the ring can fall and be damaged, fall into a hole from which you can’t get it out, or you can just leave it there through carelessness and lose it. However, there are situations when you should take off your engagement ring, and among such situations are definitely swimming in the pool, spending time at the beach, playing sports and other similar activities.
Avoid touching the center stone
While we have no doubt that the center stone in your engagement ring shines indescribably and you want to touch it, try to do so as rarely as possible. Diamonds and other gemstones attract dirt, dust, and grease very easily. Therefore, when you wear or want to take off your engagement ring, try to grab it not by the stone, but by the metal on both sides of the ring.
Diamonds are not invulnerable
Most of you have probably heard that a diamond is indestructible, but in reality this is a myth. Although diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring gemstones, they can still crack, chip, or break. Although jewelers are skilled at setting and protecting diamonds in rings, a large impact can still damage a diamond, so it is important to take extra care of your engagement ring.
Clean your engagement ring regularly
Dirt and grease that accumulate on a gemstone impair its interaction with light. In order for the true beauty of the gemstone encrusted in the ring to be revealed, the ring must be cleaned regularly. Caring for the ring is actually not that difficult. Simply place it in a container with warm water and a few drops of soap or mild dishwashing detergent. You can leave the ring in the water for a few minutes or longer. Then, after removing it, gently scrub it with a soft-bristled children's toothbrush. Finally, all that remains is to rinse it and dry it. You can clean the ring this way at least once every few weeks.
Of course, it is very important to emphasize that you should not use harsh chemical cleaners when cleaning. Likewise, you should not wear your engagement ring if your hands come into contact with bleach and other cleaning products, as the chemicals in them can damage both the ring's finish and the gemstone itself.
Show your ring to a jeweler at least once a year.
Wearing an engagement ring every day can cause some parts of it to loosen, so to prevent damage to the ring or the gemstones from falling out, it is a good idea to show it to a professional jeweler at least once a year.
